We are thrilled to welcome our newest partner Pixie Scientific into the Alz You Need community. As we work to assist families with the challenges associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia, we are excited to share with you Pixie Smart Pads, which enable users to monitor for Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) from home.
UTIs are a leading reason individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia end up in the emergency room. Symptoms such as delirium or falls are mistaken as cognitive decline or a stroke. In addition, it can be very hard for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia to articulate their symptoms. Pixie saw the need for a way for families to monitor for the onset of UTIs from home.
For families, this is big.
Pixie Smart Pads are the easiest way to make sure a loved one doesn’t suffer from another UTI.
A pad is placed in a brief or pull-up twice per week. At changing time, a sensor on the pad is scanned with the Pixie app (included in order), which takes a picture. Results go to the Pixie nurse who will call or text you.
It’s easy to see the difference Pixie can make for those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. For a person living with dementia, recognizing and communicating the early symptoms of UTIs is challenging, allowing the infection to progress and the discomfort to worsen. Pixie helps communicate what your loved one often can’t, making hospitalizations a worst case scenario, rather than an inevitable.
Pixie Smart Pads are a safe, easy and affordable way to help manage recurring UTIs. As you work to allow your loved one to age in place, Pixie’s clinical team is available 24/7 to help support your loved one’s care.
